Security Smart Bracelet
In the last decade, technology has become a big part of our daily life. It is rapidly improving and advancing by offering new innovations and revolutionary projects. Engineers, scientists, and especially sharp minds are working every day to develop future groundbreaking technology that will change our lives. Brain reading robots, 3d printing, lab-made dairy products, and more importantly, sustainable technology that will help the environment such as LED light technology, solar power, self-sufficient and LEED buildings, and construction methods.
Case study
The government of Jalisco has hired you to develop such a wearable device, aimed at 18 to 23 y/o citizens of Guadalajara’s future as a Smart City, in order to foster trust and safety among the members of the community.
Guadalajara is the second-largest city in Mexico, and it is considered the country’s cultural center. The 16th-century culture and leadership in innovation constitute the intersection of tradition and technology. The city attracts the latest technology developers. The government’s goal is Guadalajara to become a Smart City. In spite of the outstanding attractions and culture Guadalajara isn’t considered to be very safe. The U.S Department of State has issued a warning to travelers due to crime and kidnapping.
Thus, in order to help the city, improve the crime rate I would suggest the development of a wearable device and I will focus on the following tipping points:
· 10% of people wearing clothes connected to the internet 91.2
· 1 trillion sensors connected to the internet 89.2
· 90% of the population using smartphones 80.7
· 90% of the population with regular access to the internet 78.8
In the last decade, wearable smart devices have gained the trust of people. Smartwatches by Apple were the first wearable devices. They connect to the internet and enable the user to read and send new messages. Since the internet is the most important tool that almost everyone is using, a smart device will be attractive for the people in Guadalajara, especially for the young people. Even though access to the internet was limited at the beginning, nowadays according to research 90% of the population have regular access to the internet and with the competition amongst internet providers, the prices are bearable.
In order to present my ideas, I will use IDEOS Design kit for inspiration, Ideation, and implementation.
Inspiration method:
Frame your Design Challenge
One of the most important steps in the Design Thinking process is to define your design challenge because it sets the guides for the activities that you need to follow. A design challenge articulates the problem you are trying to solve and helps you define a scope that is neither too narrow nor too broad. For the project, it will help my team and me to define the most important challenge, write down possible solutions, and in the end try to choose the best solution.
Create a project plan
This is tool is a great way to start planning a project. It is a great tool to ensure all the members have the same vision and to set goals among the team. Another reason of why we chose this tool is that it saves money and it improves team communication
Ideation method:
Business Model Canvas
A business model canvas helps the people that are working on a project to understand the resources, key activities, the revenue etc. It will help the team to understand the model of the project in a more structured way and what resources are vital for the operation. Canvas is also a great digital tool to advertise our product and get the people of Guadalajara to know the product.
Prototype
The most important reason why we chose a prototype is because it simulates the actual or the future product. Another reason is it can help the team attract possible investors.
Implementation method:
Staff your project
This is the most important phase in order to plan the launch of the product. Now we can take a look at the capabilities of the people who are working on this and try to determine which member is suitable for this phase and if you need to add a member that has a special skill that the team might missing.
Our proposal is to produce and promote a smart bracelet along with an application-based communication system that will be able to provide you with immediate assistance with the press of a button. The bracelet will be connected through a 4G or 5G network with a security provider or company. Consequently, when you feel under pressure or even in the worst-case scenario that you are under attach, pressing the button an immediate signal will be transmitted to the security office and responsible security personnel will come to your place as soon as possible. Also, the police and if it is needed the local medical services will be invited in the event spot. Our purpose is the bracelet’s function to be so simple as it was described above that the only action required would be to press a button. Additional functionalities could be the bracelet to frequently send to your security provider a signal of your place in order to receive safety notifications and of course to be approached immediately in case of emergency. This bracelet could be an important tool in the use of Jalisco’s government, and the government could either subsidize its purchase or rent them to the tourists. The end result would be for the government to be in position to protect its citizens, the tourists and to become a notable safe destination.
This case study was very educational and informative. First of all, before I started this case study, I conducted research on Guadalajara, and I was very surprised to read that it is the leadership in innovation. Secondly, I got familiar with IDEOS kit and by reading throughout the website I discovered how each tool can help team with projects. It was also beneficial for my creativity and innovative spirit to think about a product like the smart bracelet which can easily be entered in the market and secure the quality of life not only in Guadalajara but also in most of the cities around the world. In a nutshell, I am always surprised how many ideas can be created with projects like the one that we successfully accomplished with my team.
